Charity Chain
Aritz Cirbian — Dm, 12/21/2010 - 18:48
This past Sunday, Intereconomia broadcasted their own 24h-Charity-Show against unemployment with an income of 700,000€, and it filled them with solidarity pride.
The same day, catalans donated more than ten times Intereconomia’s amount (more than 7 million euros) so the Charity Foundation of the catalan public TV can invest it in researching the spinal and brain injuries and diseases. And that filled us with solidarity pride.
Thanks to Catalonia’s “Inheritance & Donation” law, last 2010 we collected at least 100 times more than “La Marató de TV3” did. Yes, you have understood it right: 700 million euros.
But now, our new parliament here in Catalonia might deprecate that law. Now I wonder where is the solidarity pride of the richest 5% of our society. Nowadays they are the only ones who got to pay that tax, and they are really eager to make it disappear.
Do you realize how much social support, how much R&D, how much culture, how much public investment could be maintained each year if we could collect at least a hundred times the amount a TV Charity Show collects?
I’ve realized it, and I don’t want it to disappear.
